Sister Maria Natalia of Hungary received many visions and locutions during this century. In the early 1940's, Jesus gave her the "Double Great Novena to honor the Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary. This devotion to the United Hearts was the culmination of many allusions in Church history to the Two Hearts: the two persons side-by-side working for the salvation of souls and the fulfillment of the will of God. Here are just three apparitions occurring prior to Sister Natalia's apparitions.
Perhaps one of the first visible signs of the Twin Hearts working to fulfill God's will was in the 1400's. St. Joan of Arc was given a mission from God to rally the French armies and drive out the invading English forces plus she was to take the young French king, Charles, to Rheims to be crowned King of France. Before entering battle, Joan requested a banner to be made bearing the words Jesus, Maria along with a figure of God the Father, to whom two (2) kneeling angels were presenting a fleur-de-lis, the royal emblem of France. It's not certain whether "Jesus, Maria" was placed on the banner because of the locutions Joan received. It, nevertheless, stands as a testimony to the united efforts of the persons of Jesus and Mary. St. Joan of Arc remains the only person of either sex who has ever held supreme command of the military forces of a nation at the age of seventeen.
In the 19th century, in a Sisters of Charity convent on Rue du Bac in Paris, France, a young novice was shown a new medal by the Blessed Virgin Mary. On the back of what is today called the Miraculous Medal, are the Hearts of Jesus and Mary side-by-side under the cross, the sign of salvation.
What was communicated through pictorial representations became a verbal request by 1920. Before Jacinta of Fatima died in 1920, she revealed a message from God through Our Lady. One of the messages concerned the alliance of the Hearts of Jesus and Mary: "Tell everyone to ask graces from her (Immaculate Heart of Mary) and that the Heart of Jesus wishes to be venerated together with the Immaculate Heart of Mary."
Sister Maria Natalia is a Hungarian nun who was born in 1901. During her lifetime she has lived through two world wars and the resulting turmoil and sufferings. After World War II, she endured communist persecution and the dispersion of her religious order. To avoid the communist authorities, Sister Maria Natalia was forced to live in hiding in order to survive. Sister Maria Natalia was chosen by Jesus in the 1930's to receive messages in the form of locutions and visions. Through Sister Natalia Jesus revealed His desire to establish devotion to His desire to establish devotion to His Immaculate Mother as the "Victorious Queen of the World" as well as to start a world-wide reparation movement to help usher in the triumph of the Immaculate Heart that was promised at Fatima. Among the many messages given to Sister Natalia concerning the Church, priests and religious and the coming reign of peace, Sister Natalia was given a "Double Great Novena" to honor the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary. This vision explicitly tied together devotion to both Hearts and revealed the power therein. We quote from Sister Natalia's spiritual diary: On August 15, 1942, the Lord Jesus gave me a great grace. During a vision, He gave great promises for those who complete a novena to the honor of His Sacred Heart together with the Immaculate Heart of Mary. As I prayed, I saw Jesus stopped by me. He took my hand and let me before His Immaculate Mother, then said: "My child, look at your Mother as the Queen of the World. Love her and surround her with the trust of a child. I want this from you and from everyone."
Then He lifted a little mantle of His Virgin Mother and showed me Her Immaculate Heart, then turning toward the world, He said: "Behold, the Immaculate Heart in which I placed My graces for the world and for souls. This Heart is the fountain of My graces from which the life and sanctification of the world is originating. As the Heavenly Father gave everything to Me, in the same way, I give My victorious power over the world and sin to the Immaculate Heart of My Mother. Through my daughter (Sister Margaret Mary Alacoque of the devotion to the sacred Heart), I gave the world big promises, but since My goodness is infinite, now I offer even more."
"If people want to gain the benefits of My promises, they must love and venerate the Immaculate Heart of My Mother. The greatest sign of this reverence will be if they go to Communion, after proper preparation and repentance, on nine consecutive first Saturdays parallel with the First Fridays. Their intentions should be to console My Heart together with the Immaculate Heart of My Mother". I understood that Jesus was asking the same for His Sorrowful Mother that He had asked for Himself from St. Margaret: We should console together with her the deeply offended God.
I asked Jesus: Should we console His Mother too since she receives much ungratefulness and many blows? Jesus answered: My dear child, if someone hurts Me, that person hurts My Mother also. If someone consoles Me, this will console My Mother at the same time. My Mother and I are one in love. When the Savior said this, I learned many heartening things about the unity of the two Most Sacred Hearts. The union of these two Hearts arises from the total gift of self to God's plan for the salvation of mankind.
