Know the Staff Not every phone call to your agent has to be handled by your agent. Some offices emphasize a team approach that allows you to bet more bang for your buck. Other offices have a more territorial approach and only Susie can help you so you have to leave voice mail. Sometimes you might just need a full data sheet on a house you saw for sale on your way to work or maybe just the price to see if it is in your range. Real estate agents are out of the office frequently, showing homes to folks like you or previewing homes for you and other buyers, and attending classes to keep their skills up to date. Cultivate a relationship with a receptionist or assistant so they will help you out for the little pieces of information you need. After all, if you are in a seller's market and that sign you saw on the way to work just went up and you get to see the house before the other buyers, you and your real estate agent will be happy that the assistant or receptionist was able to look it up on the Multiple Listing Service and tell you the price and some features of the home.
